Neutral Good Magic-User / Thief
Created by
Adam Musson
M'kiil was born to a traditional and proud Pseithen family in the
forest of the foothills of the Kienkin Mountains. He is the youngest of
seven brothers and four sisters. The T'kinski band lived by the forest.
They were hunters and woodsmen and had nothing to do with the outside
world. All, that is, except for the eldest of the band, M'kiil's great-grand father,
who was slightly liberal, but stayed within the Pseithen boundaries. He
did, however, encourage young M'kiil by giving him books about magic and
the arcane arts. With the knowledge of the existence of a greater
intellectual power, M'kiil could not grow up a Pseithen woodsmen.
Throughout his young adult life, M'kiil resisted the teachings of
his father and older brothers. He showed no interest in foresting or
hunting. He never even (elven gods forbid) learned to use a bow. He spent most of his time wondering the foothills and woodlands alone, talking
to and learning the languages of various forest creatures. Eventually,
M'kiil learned of a city, called Metfield, outside the forest. He wanted
badly to go to the city and study magic, and when he became old enough to
leave his band, he asked his fathers consent to move. This infuriated his
father, but he loved M'kiil and respected his sons wishes. M'kiil soon
left for the city and sought apprenticeship from a local retired wizard
named Joanus.
Because of his great intelligence, M'kiil learned the arts of
magic very quickly. He also learned to speak, read, and write the King's Tongue. M'kiil learned how to use several magic items including rods,
staves, wands, and potions. Unfortunately, he grew too fond of these items and
attempted to steal them. He, of course, got caught. Joanus was upset,
but he was fond of young M'kiil and took pity on him. Instead of
prosecuting M'kiil, the aged wizard banished the young elf from his home.
Being a two-time loser, M'kiil was too ashamed to return to his
band a failure. He instead decided to leave Metfield and go where the
wind took him. He took with him a pack of supplies, a knife, and his
knowledge.
M'kiil is tall for an elf, standing five-foot-ten, and his slender frame
adds up to 113 pounds. He is, of course, clean shaven, but ever since his
youth he kept his head shaved bald. Perhaps an adolescent form of
rebellion, but a shaven head is, indeed, a strange fashion for elves.
He has the traditional Pseithen tattoos (a full blossomed oak
tree--the sign of the T'kinski band) on both of his shoulders. His highly
chiseled facial features and slightly dark complexion give away his elven
heritage, but with his hood dawn low he can pass for human, as he has
learned to hide his Pseithen accent very well.
M'kiil wears a long, dark-green hooded robe with gold trim, and
he prefers sandals to boots or shoes. His leather pack contains a
blanket, rations, and a thick book he had never seen before. When he
opened the strange book he saw, on the inside front cover, the words (in
Pseithen): "This world can be a cruel place, this book will assist your
journey through its realms -- Joanus of Metfield." He thumbed through the
book and discovered it was an exact copy of one of his mentor's spell
books. He keeps his knife hidden within the folds of his robe, but rarely
uses it in battle. Instead, he relies on his powers of magic and uses the
blade to shave his head.
M'kiil is quiet and keeps to himself. He has trouble making
friends but when he makes an ally he is loyal to the death and will stand
beside him at all times. Because of his appearance and slight shyness, he
often comes off as sinister. However, evil is not in his heart; he
remains steadily neutral. M'kiil also enjoys a games, especially the Alaison game of chess.
